Hey WeTransacteers,
We’ve got a new tactic for you! Many of you have been applying Azure Credits to your Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) and Enterprise Agreement (EA) subscriptions. However, you’ve probably heard (or read) that these credits cannot be applied to Microsoft Customer Agreement (MCA) subscriptions.
Well, that’s not entirely true—they actually can be applied in a compliant way.
TL:TR below
The Key to Making It Work
Azure Credits are only applicable via the Microsoft Online Services Program (MOSP) billing scope, not MCA. So, to use these credits, the subscription must be under MOSP. Here’s how you can make it happen:
How to Apply Azure Credits to MCA Subscriptions
To apply credits to an MCA subscription, you need to temporarily move the subscription to MOSP, apply the credits, and then move it back to MCA. Here’s the step-by-step process:
Request the credits via Marketplace Rewards. You’ll need a Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) subscription. If you don’t have one, leave that field blank in the request form, and a new PAYG subscription will be created for you.
Once Sponsorship credits are granted and a PAYG subscription is assigned, contact Azure Billing Support to convert your production subscription from MCA to MOSP. This step requires administrative approval and coordination with Azure Support.
Best practice: If possible the Account Admin, subscription owner, and the person requesting the credits in the Marketplace Rewards Form should be the same person to save time. Otherwise, support will require you to provide an approval statement like this and involve your Admin. Easy but little longer:
I [Your Name & Email], being the Admin of the account/subscription, hereby approve the conversion of the subscription ID: ___________________ to a sponsored offer.
Once the subscription is under MOSP, the Azure Credits can be applied to offset costs.
After the credits are used, request Azure Support to transfer the subscription back to MCA or do it yourself from the Azure Portal:
• Azure Home > Cost Management + Billing > Billing scopes > Select your Billing > Billing Profiles > Select your Billing Profile > Transfer Request
Your CTO should know how to do this. If not? → Support Route.
Maximizing Your Savings
Now that you’ve saved budget for your IT team, make good use of it! Consider investing in Outbound, Inbound, or Nearbound (e.g., Crossbeam ).
A Few Important Considerations
Azure Credits do NOT contribute to your MACC commitment. While this workaround reduces immediate costs, it won’t help meet MACC obligations.
Azure prepayment funds cannot be used for partner-sold solutions—they can only be applied to Microsoft services.
If you have a MACC commitment, transfer the subscription back to MCA as soon as the credits are consumed (or just before). This ensures continued MACC consumption and prevents invoices outside of MACC.
